www.get-tuned.com A very
handy online instrument tuning facility. You can choose from a variety
of instruments and it will provide you with the standard tuning for that
instrument, however, you must tune by ear!!
For guitar the strings to tune are as follows: 1st string
(thinnest) E, 2nd string B, 3rd string G, 4th string D, 5th string A and
the 6th string (fattest) E.
Bass guitar: 1st string (thinnest,or, 3rd string for a normal
guitar) G, 2nd string D, 3rd string A and the 4th string (fattest) E.
Ukulele: 1st string (furthest from your head!!) A, 2nd string E, 3rd string C and the 4th string (closest to you head!) G.
www.ultimate-guitar.com
A useful website for finding guitar chords and guitar tabs for your
favoutite songs! Just type your song into the search bar and you should
be able to locate the chords you are after.
http://www.dolphinstreet.com/guitar_video_lessons/
A great collection of online video based guitar lessons for those
students whose skills are developing a little quick and who would like a
challenge! Robert Renmon is an excellent guitarist and his lessons are
always broken down into simple steps, however, they do require some
practice. Well worth a look for kids wanting to learn as well as
adults. Just scroll down the page to see the huge list of skill based
videos and lessons.
www.youtube.com Go here and
search for guitar, piano, bass and drum lessons online. There are tonnes
of excellent tutors (and some dodgy ones, so be careful) on YouTube
that will help you on your way to rock stardom!! Even awesome music
teachers use YouTube to learn how to play songs, riffs and to learn new
ways of playing.
There are also some great podcasts you can subscribe to through
iTunes. If you search for music podcasts in the “iTunes Store,” you can
find lots of free and excellent online lessons that will download
straight to iTunes everytime there is a new lesson.
Other than that…. Search for the chords and/or guitar and bass tabs
for the songs you like using Google (or your preferred search engine!)
and see what comes up. I always search for song lyrics, chords and
guitar and bass tabs online and can generally find fairly accurate chord
charts for what I want to play. Give it a try!

Clean Modern Cover Songs for School Use
If you are looking for songs to do with your classes that are not
from the dark ages, then check out Tyler Ward’s YouTube channel for a
wide variety of cover songs that are generally cleaned up and
appropriate for school aged students. He is also a really good musician
and studio engineer, so his videos and the audio tracks are very well
made and produced. I use a lot of his cover songs with the students at
Trafalgar Primary School, so just scroll through his videos to find
something suitable for your classes. http://www.youtube.com/user/TylerWardMusic?feature=chclk
